Fat Minnow – Surface Sinking Lure

The Fat Minnow is a long-casting surface lure, designed to perform in rough seas or when a larger water disturbance is needed to draw fish up from below.

This lure is a standout for Roosterfish and Leerfish—species known for their aggressive surface strikes—and is a favorite among experienced anglers. The Fat Minnow creates a bold splash and surface action, making it irresistible to predatory fish hunting in turbulent or calm waters.

Key Features & Action

  • Medium to fast retrieve – Excels when retrieved quickly across the surface.
  • Versatile action – Can be worked with a steady retrieve or used like a popper with or without use of the rod tip.
  • Long-session friendly – Generates plenty of surface commotion without tiring your arm like a traditional popper.
  • Perfect for tough conditions – Designed to pull fish from the depths, even in choppy water.

Unmatched Durability

Like all Samson Lures, the Fat Minnow is built to withstand the harshest environments. It can be bashed against rocks without damage and handle sharp-toothed predators with ease. Unlike similar-looking lures made from molds—which are prone to cracking—the Fat Minnow is handmade and lathe-turned, ensuring it won’t crack under pressure. These lures are virtually indestructible, giving you the confidence to cast into rocky shorelines and take on the toothiest fish.

Target Species

Perfect for Roosterfish, Leerfish, Bass, GTs, Tailor (Bluefish), Tuna, Sea Trout, Snapper, Jacks, Mackerel, Kingfish, and most other pelagic predators.

Built for Performance

✔ Extra-strong treble hook

✔ Virtually indestructible — perfect for fishing around rocks and sharp-toothed predators
✔ Handmade lathe-turned for precision casting
✔ Casts well in windy conditions — great for punching through onshore winds

NB: All lure weights are without hooks and rings.
